3 Ways that help me to Embrace Change
I will probably be one of the first to say that I didn't always like change. It used to throw me off and make me respond rather dramatically as a kid. But after moving several times throughout the years I’ve learned the benefits of change as well as how to cope. Here are three ways that help me to embrace change:
1. Learn new perspectives & ways of living.
Having lived in several different places, as well as states, I’ve found that my world has gotten bigger. I am more empathetic towards others and how they live because I’ve had to adapt my own life countless times. Having to make new friends each time also encouraged me. How someone has to live in the city is a completely different experience to living in the country. Each place has different challenges, perks, and ways that your mind has to translate so that you can thrive or survive. Now when smaller changes happen in my career, duties, and other roles I can adapt more quickly. It still isn’t easy, so what I’ve done is also try to think of it all as an adventure.
2. Make change an adventurous journey.
As a Christian, this is something pretty exciting for me. In the bigger picture I believe that there is something bigger than me at play (God). I can think of life in a very small way sometimes, but looking to my Creator for inspiration and guidance I’ve been able to experience things that I never thought I would have done before. Having a family for one. Before having a son or even getting married, it all intimidated me. But looking back I see how much fun it really has been. Whether you are a Christian or not, looking at the bigger picture of your life and seeing what the possibilities could possibly be can make for a fun adventure through the change.
3. Embrace the benefit of change, growth.
With change comes growth. Now that it is autumn, I am quite reflective. It got me to thinking about how the seasons between summer and winter prep me. Autumn is one of my favorites, and besides loving all the colors, it makes me ponder life and where I am at. It also gets me ready for colder temps and shorter days. The same can apply to life.
