Pennsylvania Youth Challenge in 12 Hours
A lot of what I do is outside of the realms of photography. I spend hours making sure things are running smoothly for those that lead out in different ministries. One of those ministries is the Pennsylvania Youth Challenge. It is comprised of a group of about 28 students who work during the summer as literature evangelists. They go door to door selling books and praying for those who need it. They work hard through the heat and after spending a day with them I can understand why prayer is so essential in their work. It's hard getting the door slammed in your face, even as someone watching from the road! I met the students at the school they were camping out at, nice and early in the morning to photograph them working on the landscapes.
Then after they had a group worship and bible study discussion about baptism.
At the close of the study session, they gathered in a circle and prayed for the rest of the day where they would canvass their territories.
And a chant!
Friendship and teamwork is so crucial to staying encouraged. PYC makes sure that you are cared for during this hard work.
I was particularly intimidated by this next part of the day and I wasn't even the one going to the doors! I did have fun, however, figuring out how to photograph the students without showing the faces of those I didn't get a chance to get permission from.
Once in a while I did get that chance and it was fun. Confident and ready to get the job done! Dom still kept a focused look even though she had just hit several no's and no answers. Keep that chin up girl!
I was exhausted after 12 hours of spending the day with these guys. It was definitely well worth it and something that I wish I did last year. Instead of working at summer camp and chilling by a lake these students break out of their comfort zones and take on something that God definitely ordains. I am a believer because a canvasser came to both of my grandparents' homes when they were young.
Don't under estimate the power of planting a seed!
