3 Ways To Stay Motivated Working From Home
I’ve shared in the past about using a Bullet Journal to help me set priorities and get things done, but have since moved on to other ways of keeping track of tasks. I thought it would be just as helpful to share with you now how I stay motivated working from home. It's easy to get distracted by browsing social media and no one around to hold you accountable. Am I alone on this one?
I’ve struggled with burn out before. I get it. This isn’t about dealing with burn out, but about simple staying on track with work, even when you feel motivated to do other good things. After trial and error these three pointers seem to be the best motivators:
Set an "Ideal Day" Routine
Having a basic idea of how my day is going to go, especially as a mama, has really helped. I try not to be too regimented about the routine because then I will fall prey to disappointment. I first block off times for getting ready for the day, eating, and taking a walk. I personally get overwhelmed by scheduling out a whole day minute by minute. I won’t schedule things based on a time, but on tasks. Create a routine that works for you, not necessarily what should work for everyone. Somehow it creates a rhythm that sets you up for success. I think our bodies and minds begin to anticipate those things we do everyday.
Journal Your Tasks
Keeping a to-do list has always been helpful for me. I am now more forgetful than ever before (thank you lack of sleep) and so I need to write everything down. If I get the chance I will write things down I need to do the night before so when I get up to tackle the day I am not just staring at a blank sheet. Throughout the day I think of things and jot them down. Groceries, to dos, projects, you name it. Even if I have 5 things on my list, it still seems like a lot.
Fit in at Least 30 mins a Day of Exercise (Get Outside if You Can!)
This is something that is SO important to me. When I make it a routine to get outside and take a walk it really shifts my headspace. I feel better about my body, am more aware of my surroundings, and during that walk I get a whole 45 minutes to let my brain wander since my son can’t get into any trouble being strapped into the stroller.
Even though I have shared 3 things that have helped to keep me motivated while working at home, you should really figure out what works best for you. These ideas will hopefully spark ideas of your own and maybe give you encouragement. If you have any tips on how you stay motivated working from home, please share in the comments below! We are in this together.
