How Nature Inspires Creativity & Peace

how nature inspires creativity and peace

One of the blessings of living out in the country is being able to immerse ourselves in nature. At the base of the hill, on the edge of our property is this creek that rushes during the spring months. I love opening the windows and hearing it move in full force down its path. When we moved here from Philly, I immediately fell in love with the peace I found here.

I know that talking about the out of doors isn't really about the house, but the yard is still a part of the home. Even a little lot with a patch of grass can inspire with what little nature there is. Being here has taught me so much and I thought I would share with you guys how nature inspires creativity and peace in life.

Fresh Air Does the Brain Good

The other day, I was feeling a bit restless when I realized I should probably go outside. Despite the chill in the air, I put on a thick sweater and my boots and trudged outside with my camera to see what I could find. After a long winter cooped up inside, it felt so good to just get out there. I had forgotten what fresh air could do for a person. It made me feel more awake and refreshed. All the thinking I had been doing all morning long, was rejuvenated by the change in the air.

The Quiet Soothes Your Soul

Sometimes in the hustle of life, with technology always at our fingertips, it can be hard to slow down. Any time I take a walk in the woods, whether it is at the park or at home, the quiet seems to slow me way down and bring me back to the present. Because I am so attuned to hearing the noise of life, I start to listen for the sounds. They are peaceful, flowing, and restful. Even when the creek is loud, the rushing sound calms me.

Nature Offers Little Surprises

Even in the newness of spring, I can find beautiful little surprises even when the flowers haven't blossomed. After a rain, the drops of water look like little jewels. Bare branches show their shapes, colors are saturated from the dampness, and early budding plants flash whites. Taking my mind off of the thoughts swirling in my head and looking through the woods takes the pressure off of trying to create more and just be. In turn, this uncovers new things without me trying!

Nature is something that has been a gift to me. Living in the city I worked hard to find it. Now, being within the trees, it grounds me. I would encourage you to see how nature inspires creativity and peace in your life as well! Everyone needs a little peace nowadays, don't you think?

What are some wonderful experiences you've had in nature? Do you have memories from when you were a kid playing in the trees or making forts out of sticks? Where is a place you can go to experience nature?
